What is Word Frequency Counter
A word frequency counter reads a block of text and tells you how many times each individual word shows up, then lists those words from the most repeated to the least. Instead of a single total like a plain word counter gives you, it breaks the text down word by word so you can see which terms you lean on and which barely appear. Paste anything from a tweet to a full article and the ranking updates as you type.
How to use

- Set a minimum word length or minimum count to trim short or rare words.
- Read the ranked table, most frequent word first.

When to use it
Writing an article and want to check you are not repeating yourself? Paste the draft and you might find "however" showing up 14 times or your target keyword only twice. It is handy for checking keyword density before publishing, spotting crutch words in an essay, or pulling the top terms out of survey responses. Switch on "Ignore common words" and the ranking jumps straight to the words that actually carry your meaning.
Frequently asked questions
How does the counter decide what a word is?
It splits your text on spaces and punctuation, so "cat," and "cat" count as the same word. Apostrophes and hyphens inside a word are kept, so "don't" and "state-of-the-art" each count as one word.
Does capitalization matter?
By default no: "Apple" and "apple" are counted together. Turn on "Case sensitive" if you want them counted separately.
What are common words and why hide them?
Words like the, and, of, to and is appear constantly but carry little meaning, so they usually top the list and bury the words you care about. "Ignore common words" removes a built-in list of these English filler words. Counts for the words that remain are unchanged.
Is there a limit on text length?
You can paste long documents. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded, but only the top 200 words are shown in the table to keep the page fast. The total and unique word counts always reflect the full text.
