What is Snake Game

Snake is the classic arcade game where you guide a growing snake around a 20 by 20 grid. Every piece of food you eat makes the snake one segment longer, and the only way to lose is to run into a wall or into your own tail. It runs entirely in your browser, works on desktop and mobile, and saves your high score on your device.

How to use

  1. Press Start to drop the snake onto the board.
  2. Steer with the arrow keys or WASD on a keyboard, or swipe on the board on a phone.
  3. Tap the on-screen arrow buttons if you prefer, they work on any device.
  4. Eat the red food to grow longer and add a point to your score.
  5. Avoid the walls and your own tail. Press Play again after a crash to try to beat your record.

When to use it

Got a couple of minutes to kill and want a quick reflex challenge? Start a round, grab a few pieces of food and watch your score climb. Your best run is saved on the device, so the next time you open the page you have a number to beat, whether you are on a coffee break or waiting for a build to finish.

Frequently asked questions

How do I control the snake?

On a computer use the arrow keys or the WASD keys. On a phone or tablet swipe across the board in the direction you want to go, or tap the four arrow buttons below the board. You cannot turn back directly into yourself.

Is my high score saved?

Yes. Your best score is stored in your browser's local storage on the device you play on. It stays between sessions in the same browser, but it is not shared across devices and is cleared if you wipe your browser data.

Does the snake speed up?

No. This version keeps a single, steady speed for the whole game so the challenge comes from the snake getting longer, not from it getting faster.

How do I win or lose?

There is no final win screen, the goal is the highest score you can reach. The game ends the moment the snake's head hits a wall or any part of its own body.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The board scales to your screen and you can play by swiping or with the on-screen buttons, so it works the same on phones, tablets and computers.
