When to use it
Copied down a Morse transmission by ear and want to check it? Paste your dots and dashes here and read the plain text back in a second. It is a fast way to confirm your manual copy on the air, since any misread character shows up right away as the wrong letter or a question mark.
Frequently asked questions
How do I format Morse code for this decoder?
Separate each letter with a single space and each word with a forward slash surrounded by spaces ( / ). For example: ... --- ... / .-- --- .-. .-.. -.. decodes to SOS WORLD.
What does a question mark mean in the decoded output?
A question mark (?) means the decoder encountered a Morse sequence it could not match to any standard character. Check that your dots and dashes are correct and that letters are separated by a single space.
Does Morse code support accented characters?
Standard international Morse code covers only the Latin alphabet (A–Z) and digits (0–9). Accented characters have no standard Morse equivalent and will appear as a question mark.
Can I convert text to Morse code?
Yes. Use the companion Text to Morse tool, linked below the decoder.
Can I share this tool with my inputs pre-filled?
Yes. The URL updates automatically as you type. Copy it from the address bar or use the Share button — anyone who opens the link will see your exact inputs ready to go.
