Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. All processing runs locally in your browser with JavaScript. The image never leaves your device.
Does cleaning reduce the image quality?
For JPEG and PNG, no. The metadata is cut out at the byte level and the pixel data is left untouched, so quality is identical. Other formats (like WebP) are re-encoded, which can very slightly change them.
What metadata gets removed?
EXIF (camera, GPS, date, settings), XMP, IPTC and any embedded comments for JPEG. For PNG, text chunks and the eXIf chunk. In short, everything personal or identifying.
